Eating out - cenar afuera - is something I love to do and luckily there are many good restaurants in the neighborhood where I live here in Barcelona. I rarely dine in the expensive tourist eateries, I prefer to dine where the locals dine and they use a rule of thumb to find a good place to eat:
A good restaurant should be: bueno, bonito y barato - good, nice and cheap.
Ok, as you've found a good restaurant, let's now have a few easy Spanish phrases that'll make a winning impression and get you excellent service.
You know when you're in two minds about what to order and you say:
"I can't decide what to have, it's between the lamb and the cod." It's so easy to say this in Spanish, por ejemplo:
Estoy dudando entre la lasaña y la hamburguesa - I'm deciding between the lasagne and the hamburger.
Another tasty Spanish phrase I use a lot when dining concerns expressing that you fancy something, like this:
Me apetece un helado - I feel like an ice cream
And how about this for a another cracking authentic Spanish phrase to add to your growing vocab. You catch the mouth-watering aromas emanating from the kitchen and you say something like:
"Boy that stew is smelling fantastic!" If you want to say this in Spanish, then use this next descriptive phrase which might cause a puzzled look:
